First Aid Courses
It is a prerequisite to obtain a 16 hour x Level 1 First Aid Certificate to qualify for registration as a tourist guide. It can be done through any accredited First Aid Training Institution.

At the end of the course you will receive an oral assessment and if seen as competent, receive a certificate. This course is valid for 3 years and therefore needs to be redone ever three years. It is vital that a tour guide is knowledgeable and comfortable with First Aid in emergencies.

A Cape Town based, Department of Labour and Seta approved training establishment, Frontline Emergency Care has provided first aid training within the public and private sectors since 2000. Their training style is very motivational, enabling people to understand the importance of ‘bystander emergency response’ and how they can save lives and treat people by taking the first step at an emergency scene, before an ambulance arrives. We offer discounted rates for tourist guides and adapt our courses for guides with personal experiences.

Dynamikos Training Network has been providing First Aid Training to their customers in the Cape Town and Western Cape region for over 4 years. Although our focus is First Aid Training for Level 1, 2 & 3, Dynamikos also offers the following training: Basic Fire Fighting, Fire Team Member, Fire Team Leader, Health & Safety Induction, Health & Safety Representative, CPR Courses and Paediatric CPR & Basic First Aid. EMT is a unique, customer focused, accredited training institution offering up to date, internationally recognised, first aid courses throughout South Africa, presented by a team of qualified emergency care professionals.
Assessment Criteria:
The students will be assessed on their ability to perform practical skills of CPR, choking, bandaging, splinting and patient treatment appropriate to First Aid Level 1. Students will also be expected to pass a short theory assessment to demonstrate their understanding of the basic concepts appropriate to First Aid Level 1.
Refresher Course:
Students are eligible to attend a First Aid Level 1 Refresher course if they are in possession of a current, valid First Aid Level 1 certificate. If a student’s certificate has already expired then they are required to attend the full two day course at full price. The refresher course is one day long. The refresher certificate is valid for 2 years.
